Faculty of Agronomy in Čačak (FoA) was founded on October 9th, 1978 aiming at educating graduate engineers of agronomy who will have the capacity to advance agricultural production in the mountainous and mountainous region of central Serbia.

During almost five decades of existence, FoA has grown into a prominent and recognizable scientific research institution in our country and abroad. Its flexibility and constant improvement and development in the field of teaching and scientific research, as well as its commitment to science and improving the quality of education, have made it a desirable partner in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies. There are nine departments at the FoA: https://www.afc.kg.ac.rs/index.php/sr/fakultet/organizacija-i-upravljanje/katedre. Teaching and research are conducted within 18 modern laboratories. The faculty is a co-founder of the Science and Technology Park in Čačak, and is devoted to developing entrepreneurship and collaboration between innovative science and businesses in western Serbia.

Scientific conferences are an indicator of the interest of the FoA to enable practical application of its scientific research results, and therefore there is a decades-long tradition of the faculty in organizing scientific and professional conferences. FoA is an organizer or co-organizer of the following international and national conferences with international participation: SYMBIOTECH – International Symposium on Biotechnology, and Conference of scientific papers of Agronomy Students. Originally called the "Winter School for Agronomists", at the beginning of the century it grew into the "Consultation on Biotechnology with International Participation". It is organized as a scientific and professional conference every year, with the longest tradition (since 1996). In 2023, the "Consultation on Biotechnology with International Participation" has grown into the international "First International Symposium on Biotechnology" (28th Symposium on Biotechnology with International Participation). In order to better promote this meeting in the international framework, a special website has been created that is regularly updated - SYMBIOTECH (https://symbiotech.rs/) with all the attributes of international scientific meetings. For all 3 years that SYMBIOTECH has been in the format of an international scientific meeting, it has been verified as such (M31-M33).  The Conference of scientific papers of Agronomy Students is held every two years. Students with their mentors from a number of neighboring countries (Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia), as well as from various Euro-Asian countries, participate. When the conference is organized in a hybrid format (live and online), young researchers from all over the world participate.
