In vitro multiplication and growth of vegetative rootstocks for sweet cherry as affected by dynamics of macroelement uptake from the medium

The paper presents the relation between different macroelement concentrations in the medium, their uptake from the medium and multiplication of two vegetative sweet cherry rootstocks, Inmil GM 9 and Camil GM 79. Cultures were grown on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium, on MS medium with double-strength, half-strength and 1/4 strength macro salts with mg I-1: BA, 1; NAA, 0.1; and GA3 0.1. Control medium contained only deionized water and agar. All the analyses and multiplication parameters were monitored on day O, day 20 and day 40 of culturing. The genotype Inmil GM 9 showed the best growth and development on MS, whereas genotype Camil GM 79 performed best on MS and MS 1/2 media. However, macroelements were mostly taken up from MS 1/2 and MS 1/4 media. On MS medium, which produced the best multiplication and growth in these genotypes, the highest uptake of N and P were recorded.
