Investigation of the efficiency of hail protection using cloud seeding technique

Abstract

The cloud model has been used to investigate the efficiency of hail protection. Fifteen weather situations in which favorable conditions existed for hailstorm development have been analyzed. For these situations the cloud development in natural condition (unseeded case) and the cloud development in the case when artificial agent injected in cloud (seeded case) has been analyzed. In the model’s seeding points the agent-mixing ratio was increasing for amount X... (the agent-mixing ratio) which was varying from 3 x10-10 kg/kg to 3x10-8kg/kg. In that way, injection of agent cloud was simulating. The seeding has been performed between -8 °C and -12 °C isotherm levels. The mixture of silver-iodide and silver-chlorate particles has been used for cloud seeding. It has been found that the rain and hail fields are sensitive to agent amount injected in cloud. The optimum value of variable Xsmax is 3x10-9kg/kg. For that value of Xsmax the reduction of final hail precipitation at the ground is the highest.
