Mn and Co Levels in various soil types of Central Bačka

Abstract

A determination of pseudo-total contents of Mn and Co has been done within the framework of the soil fertility control system established at the production plots of the Agro-Industrial Combine "Becej" in central Backa. The production plots of AIC "Becej" cover 15,826.11 ha and they include eight soil types. Analyses were done on 348 samples gathered in the period 1990-1996.

The analyzed soils were found to contain high, very high and toxic levels of Mn. The toxic levels, which were very close to the upper limit of the category of very high level, were established at 347.68 ha or 2.2% of the total area. The plots with the toxic Mn levels belong to the following soil types: the calcareous chernozem soil, the gleying chernozem soil and the calcareous black meadow soil.

High Mn levels were found at only 90.28 ha or 0.57% of the total area. Very high Mn levels, which were characteristic for the production plots of the AIC "Becej", were found at 15,388.11 ha or 97.23% of the total area.

The AIC "Becej" has no plots with toxic levels of Co. Very high Co level, The maximum level of 5.92 mg/kg was found in a plot belonging to the category of very high Co provision. This category, however, covers only 10.13% of the total area analyzed. As the medium Co level was established at only 4.72% of the total area, it means that the remaining acreage may be classified in the category of high Co level. High Co level was found at 13,475.43 ha or 85.14% of the total area.
